In the face of decline in fish stocks and rising environmental challenges in the inland capture fishery, scientists from ICAR CIFT, Kochi, conducted an awareness campaign about Responsible Fishing among fishing communities along Vembanad lake in Alappuzha Muhamma.The programme was organized as part of Swachhta Hi Seva campaign of Govt.of India.
Dr. Sandhya KM, and Dr. Rejula K, Senior Scientists of ICAR- CIFT, Kochi, took classes about Responsible Fishing in Inland Sector . The awareness programme and subsequent stakeholder meeting took place at the Souhrdavedi Library in Muhamma.
Scientists have also created awareness among the fishing communities about CIFT's various Swachhta Hi Seva initiatives, besides creating awareness about responsible fishing techniques and regulations.
The program was inaugurated by Muhamma Grama Panchayat Ward Member Mr. C. D. Viswan with welcome address by Library Secretary Mr. Vinod R.
The President of the Souhrdavedi Library, Mr. Kunjumon P, Muhamma Grama Panchayat Ward Members and others were part of the discussion.
ICAR-CIFT also donated books for children to the Souhrdavedi Library in Muhamma and also distributed sanitary kits .
